Dear Friend,
Since 1993, AGENDA
has been a critical part of the South LA community—creating
a better Los Angeles for poor and working class families and
communities of color. It’s been nearly 10 years since
the LA uprising called the nation’s attention to the
serious problems facing South LA but much work is still to
be done. With the economy in a recession and funding for social
programs being slashed, low-income communities in LA are being
hit the hardest by job losses, limited job training opportunities,
and little to no healthcare coverage. That’s why our
current campaign to win access to quality healthcare jobs
and to expand health services is crucial to rebuilding South
LA. Now, more than ever, South LA residents need to come together
to build power and win real solutions to these problems.

Over the years, AGENDA has fought for and won campaigns to
put millions of dollars into reinvesting in our youth, holding
the LAPD accountable, defending the rights of welfare recipients,
and creating job-training programs that link South LA residents
to good jobs that lift them out of poverty. None of these
victories could have happened without you! AGENDA members
are the backbone of this community, people who share a vision
for social and economic justice for everyone. AGENDA members
have created a model for the city of Los Angeles, crossing
ethnic and class lines to work together. You have built this
organization from the ground up, earning AGENDA the respect
of decision makers from Los Angeles City Hall to Sacramento.
We’re
writing to ask that you officially join AGENDA so that we
can continue building a powerful grassroots organization.
Your membership dues help sustain the work of AGENDA in educating,
mobilizing and winning victories for South LA. Your dues also
help sustain AGENDA’s programs like childcare at meetings,
and voter education materials, which allow everyone in the
community to participate in making change.
Sincerely,
The
AGENDA Leadership Team |
