For organizations interested in developing a community organizing program, this introductory session will help participants understand the basics of setting up a community organizing program. Topics include history of community organizing in the US, key definitions, and an analysis of different models for community organizing. This session can be helpful to build a common understanding among key allies, as part of a strategic planning process, or simply as a primer for new organizers.
Effective Outreach Strategies & Tactics - 3-hour workshop
For organizations wishing to expand or deepen their community organizing program or who want to sharpen the skills of their organizing staff, this training will provide a solid foundation for effective outreach, recruitment, and mobilization of target constituencies. Topics such as basic organizing planning, materials development, messaging, and developing an effective rap will be covered using examples from the real-life lessons of SCOPE and its allies.
Advanced Organizing Planning / Motive Forces Analysis - 3-hour workshop
For Lead Organizers or experienced community organizers, this session will go deeper into the mechanics of developing an effective grassroots organizing program. Key topics covered include constituency analysis, planning and structuring an organizing drive and evaluating organizing tactics and strategies.
Leadership Development - 2-hour workshop
So you recruited them -- now what?! This session will help participants understand the process of leadership development and the steps to deepening the ownership & skills of grassroots leaders. Topics include tracking & evaluating leadership development, advanced organizing skills and political education.
Organizing Administration (systems/forms/standards) - 2-hour workshop
There is both a Science and an Art to effective organizing and this session will focus on the systems and processes that make up the science of organizing. Participants will learn useful skills for effective planning, tracking and evaluating the recruitment of new members, maintaining member involvement, and development of leaders. We will examine some of the tools SCOPE has developed to accurately measure these processes and to constantly update and tailor organizing strategies.
