Local Projects

Los Angeles works for Better Health: is a part of a statewide, multi-year Initiative to connect low-income communities to good jobs with career paths in growing regional industries as a path to better health. The SI department’s work focuses on the development and expansion of two programs from previous SCOPE public policy campaign victories: Healthcare Career Ladder Training Program and Workplace Hollywood (from the Dreamworks campaign). In addition SI provides capacity-building trainings to participating organizations around the state.

Civic Engagement Project: is a long-term project to reverse the trend of declining civic participation in communities of color and low-income neighborhoods. The SI department coordinates work between AGENDA’s in-depth civic participation programs, the TPE department’s civic participation training curriculum, regional civic participation projects, and SCOPE’s sister organization ALLERT*.

*The Alliance of Local Leaders for Education Registration and Turnout (ALLERT) is a 501(c4) coalition of unions, community based organizations, and churches that was established in 2002 for the purpose of deepening civic participation in traditionally underrepresented communities of Los Angeles, particularly South Los Angeles by utilizing state of the art technology, constructing ongoing neighborhood-based precinct networks, and building sustained strategic alliances. ALLERT has also initiated a special Young Voters Empowerment Project designed to increase the civic participation of 18 to 35 residents.
